DETAILS:

 

Obverse: Features the Afghan coat of arms and the denomination "500 Afghani" with text in Dari and Pashto. Issued by Da Afghanistan Bank in 1979, this is the rare blue color variant of the P59 issue.

 

Reverse: Displays Arabic horsemen and riders, a striking and traditional design element, with decorative border elements and denomination value in numerals and text.

 

The Afghanistan 500 Afghani (P59) blue variant was issued in 1979, the same year as the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The rare blue color version is distinct from the more common issues of this denomination. The horsemen and riders reverse is a strong topical design for collectors of equestrian subjects on world banknotes.
