Obverse: Features an allegorical figure of Liberty holding a torch and shield, with the denomination "1 Austral" and text in Spanish. Issued by the Banco Central de la República Argentina in 1985 as part of the Austral currency series, introduced to replace the Peso Argentino during a period of hyperinflation.
Reverse: Displays the Argentine coat of arms with decorative border elements and denomination value in numerals and text.
The Argentina 1 Austral (P323b) was issued in 1985 when Argentina replaced the Peso Argentino with the Austral at a rate of 1 Austral to 1,000 Pesos Argentinos. The Austral itself was replaced by the Peso in 1992, making this a short-lived currency series that reflects Argentina's turbulent economic history of the 1980s.
