World Expo 88 was held in Brisbane, Queensland from April 30 to October 30, 1988, coinciding with Australia’s Bicentenary. These Expo Dollars were issued in $2 and $5 denominations, functioned as legal tender exclusively within the Expo grounds, and permanently lost their spending validity when the event closed. They are now pure collector’s items and a unique piece of Australian numismatic history.
