Obverse: Portrait of Samora Moisés Machel, Mozambique's first president and revolutionary leader, alongside the Banco de Moçambique name and denomination in Portuguese. A gold-to-blue duck quill rendered in EFFECT CAMEO ink symbolizes the pre-colonial practice of carrying powdered gold inside a duck quill — a distinctive and historically meaningful security feature unique to this 2024 series. A large transparent window with a golden circle in METALIX ink is a hallmark of this polymer issue, printed by Crane Currency on Guardian polymer substrate.
Reverse: Wildlife scene featuring antelope in Mozambique's natural landscape, alongside stick figures, an outline map of Mozambique, and plant life. The yellow tones of the 50 Meticais complement the warm savanna setting. Printed on Guardian polymer substrate, the vivid colour and sharp detail of the wildlife scene benefit from the clarity that polymer printing delivers over traditional paper.
This 2024 issue marks the 50th anniversary of the Banco de Moçambique and the 45th anniversary of the metical as Mozambique's currency — making it a commemorative release as well as a circulating note.
