DETAILS:

 

Obverse: The Seychelles Magpie Robin (Copsychus sechellarum — Pi Santez / Shama des Seychelles), one of the world’s rarest birds, once reduced to fewer than 25 individuals and now recovering through conservation efforts. The Seychelles coat of arms appears at lower left alongside coco-de-mer leaf and nuts — the coco-de-mer palm produces the largest seed in the plant kingdom and grows only in the Seychelles. Reverse: Seychelles Killifish (Pachypanchax pointillé — Gourzon), an endemic freshwater fish found only in the Seychelles, depicted swimming among aquatic vegetation. The Seychelles Blue Pigeon (Alectroenas pulcherrima — Pizon Olande / Founingo rouge-cap) perches on a branch at right, identifiable by its distinctive red cap and blue-white plumage. A gold iridescent stripe with killifish pattern runs horizontally.

 

This note commemorates 40 years of Seychelles independence with the theme “Seychelles’ Unique Biodiversity — the backbone of our economy.” It was among the first notes in the world to use De La Rue’s Kinetic StarChrome windowed security thread combining colour-changing and holographic technologies.
