DETAILS:

Obverse: Portrait of Yi Hwang (1501–1570), one of the most prominent Confucian scholars of the Joseon Dynasty, known by his pen name Toegye. Behind him, the Dosan Seowon — a traditional Confucian academy and shrine built in his honour in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plum blossoms appear at upper left.

Watermark: Yi Hwang portrait.

Reverse: A reproduction of Gyesang Jeonggeodo — a classic ink landscape painting depicting the Dosan Seowon academy nestled among rugged cliffs, pine trees, and a river, painted in the traditional Korean ink-wash style. The scene reflects the natural surroundings of the Nakdong River valley in Andong.
