Obverse: Modern Port of Colombo with ships, containers and gantry cranes; old Port of Colombo with ship; Baronet butterfly (Symphaedra nais); Sri Lanka Serendib Scops Owl (Otus thilohoffmanni); lion holding sword; English, Sinhala and Tamil text. Signatures: Rajapakse/Cabraal.
Reverse: Geta Bera drummer and Ves Netuma dancer; guard stone (muragala) with punkalasa (pot of plenty, symbol of prosperity); stylized liya vela floral motif; English, Sinhala and Tamil text.
The Sri Lanka 20 Rupee note is one of the most colourful and collectible in the Central Bank's wildlife series, celebrating the island's extraordinary biodiversity. The rare Serendib Scops Owl — endemic to Sri Lanka and only scientifically described in 2001 — makes this note especially popular with wildlife enthusiasts and collectors alike.
