DETAILS:
Obverse: The Central Bank van Suriname building in Paramaribo, the colonial-era capital of Suriname. The bank's name and denomination appear in Dutch, Suriname's official language. Security features typical of the era include a watermark area and serial numbers. Dated 9 July 1991.
Reverse: A vibrant Toucan — one of the most iconic birds of South America's rainforests — depicted in full colour against a decorative background. The Toucan is symbolic of Suriname's extraordinary biodiversity; the country has one of the highest proportions of primary rainforest coverage in the world. The denomination "10" appears at both sides.
The Surinamese Gulden was replaced by the Surinamese Dollar in 2004, making all Gulden-era notes collectible by default. Suriname is a fascinating collecting area — a small Dutch-speaking nation on the northeastern coast of South America with a rich multicultural heritage. The P137a Toucan note is one of the most attractive and sought-after Suriname issues, particularly in uncirculated condition.
