Obverse: A large African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) dominates the centre, with a herd of elephants depicted at upper right as a registration device. The Tanzanian coat of arms appears at left, featuring a warrior's shield, crossed spear and axe, a torch, and Mount Kilimanjaro. Diamond-shaped dark security patch at lower left.
Watermark: Julius Kambarage Nyerere with electrotype 10000.
Reverse: The Bank of Tanzania headquarters building in Dar es Salaam, flanked by flowers. A diamond-shaped SPARK patch featuring a Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) appears at upper right — the Giraffe is the national animal of Tanzania and the tallest living terrestrial animal on Earth.
Tanzania is home to one of the largest giraffe populations on the African continent.
